Bayeux

We arrived near Caen in the morning and needed to get a train to Bayeux. It was a tad difficult because we couldn't buy a ticket in cash and the information guy didn't speak English. We met a New Zealander named Doug on the train, he was a physics teacher and was fun to talk to.
The Bayeux Tapestry and DDay Museum were great to see.
Bayeux is a pretty little town that is very close to the beaches but was not damaged during the war.

Portsmouth

We took a morning train from London to Portsmouth, a historic port city on the southern coast of England. We spent the day at the historic dockyard, waiting to take a ferry across the English Channel to Caen.
My favorite was the HMS Alliance, a World War 2 era submarine. The remains of the Mary Rose from then 16th century was also interesting.
The ferry across the channel was nice enough but somewhat difficult to get a good night of sleep on.

London

London is big and busy. Lots of people and lots of walking.
Yesterday we saw the British museum and Regents Park. Also stumbled upon two of the London universities (one was UCL) which has an engineering school.
I went on a walking tour this morning and also visited the Imperial War Museum. I also caught lunch with a couple of Australians. I have met many more Australians than Americans.
Interestingly enough, both Edinburgh and London have statues of Lincoln. There is also talk of Scotland's upcoming vote for independence in both countries.

Edinburgh and Hadrian's Wall

Edinburgh is a beautiful city but is cold and windy in July! It's refreshing to be in a European city that speaks English, but it almost feels like cheating.
