Ostia Antica

Ostia Antica was one of the first port towns of Rome. It was about 30-45 minutes outside the city. The Tiber River no longer goes along the city because of erosion throughout the centuries.
What an amazing experience! I arrived bright and early, and when I walked in I could see no one else - it was just me exploring an ancient city! This place is a gem, that not so many who visit Rome know about. I asked my hostel-mates if they visited, and they had never heard of it, nor were they very interested to visit. They missed out! I tried to go off the beaten path to find cool things - I found the tomb looking room by climbing some old stairs and climbing through some bushes. I sneaked into the tunnels beneath some of the baths, and it was quite interesting down there. I could still see some of the old half-pipes used for water transportation.
I found the ancient mosaics near the amphitheater quite amazing. It was hard to imagine what the city would have looked like two thousand years ago, but it was still great to see what was left.

Baths of Neptune

The mills - amazing that they used to be able to rotate them. They looked really really heavy.
