Lunch at the furniture store

Yesterday we went to lunch at the furniture store. They actually had a decent sized restaurant on the top floor. Mostly everyone got schweineschnitzel, which was very delicious.
When the guys were ordering their drinks, they talked very fast and I couldn't understand what they said, so I kinda assumed that they were ordering beer. I got one as well. Ended up that I was the only one who ordered a beer. It was a great meal for 5 euro.

The sun finally shines

We took a stroll through the city center and down the small river. I got to meet Minhaz and Grace today as well!

Stone roads in the Altstadt

Fountain (top of)

Bächle run through much of the city.

There were many groups of people along the river drinking, playing guitar etc. Looked fun, but it was getting too late into the day. This is on the to-do list.

These types of signs are very common. I never see such things in Ohio!

Right outside the apartment. The Haupfriedhof, or main cemetary.

Brotchen and small burger type thing called a Frikadellen. Very delicious and cheap. Brotchen are about 10 cents a piece, and Frikadellen about 30 cents a piece.

Champions League Final

The Champions League Final was big this year for Germany because both teams were German: Bayern Munich vs. Dortmund. We decided to go try and watch it at the movie theatre because we actually wanted to watch it (we heard the bars would be overly crowded).
I'm pretty sure I snuck beer into the movie theatre, although I initially thought it was normal because beer is cool just about anywhere in Germany! They were checking bags but there was a crowd of 100-200 people waiting for them to open the gates into the football match theatre, and it was kinda like rushing the field after Ohio State beat Wisconsin at home a year or two ago :)
Most of the people in the theatre seemed to be Dortmund fans. I just wanted to see a lot of goals, regardless of team.
Oh, and I thought it was particular that about 95% of the theatre stayed around to watch the trophy presentation. I feel that back at home, the majority of people would have left straight after the game ended.
I was also very surprised at first when the announcers introduced the game in German. I had forgotten I was in Germany for a second!!
Bayern won 2-1. Robben scored the winning goal at about 85 minutes.
Waiting to get in. There were probably 100-200 all packed together like this.

Altstadt and a hike

I got up early today to take advantage of the break in the rain. It was my first opportunity to see some of the cool, old buildings.
This is from another night, but I forgot to post it.

There are a lot of stands outside the church selling food, plants, and all sorts of  little gifts/souvenirs.

Up this road two women ask me for directions (I think). I had to break it to them that I can't even speak German.
I couldn't read this. I think I was hiking where some type of fort used to be.

This is on the other side of the hill, so I think this is a different small town.

I finally managed to make my way out of the woods!
